ABOUT THE JOURNAL

Announcement: Changes to Manuscript Submission through OJSUITM System

Dear Researchers and Authors,

We hope this announcement finds you well. We are pleased to inform you of an upcoming change in the manuscript submission process for the Malaysian Journal of Sustainable Environment (MySE) starting from March 2024. Beginning in March 2024, all manuscript submissions must be made through the Online Journal System at Universiti Teknologi MARA (OJSUITM). This transition aims to streamline the submission and review process, ensure efficiency, and enhance the overall experience for both authors and reviewers.


Focus and Scope

The Malaysian Journal of Sustainable Environment (MySE) is a double-blind peer-reviewed which publishes 2 times a year since 2016. The journal is dedicated to various issues focusing on 3 different fields which are:

Environmental Studies
Original contributions for environmental studies related practices will be publishing under this category and as the nucleus of the journal contents. The journal publishes a wide range of research and application papers.

Green & Sustainable
It stands as an international medium for the publication of original papers concerned with the green and sustainable. The journal aims to present to the international community important results of work in this field, whether in the form of research, development, application, or design.

Urban Studies
It is a platform for the publication and dissemination of original work which contributes to the understanding of the main disciplines underpinning the urban studies. Original contributions giving insight into urban practices related to build environment form the core of the journal contents.

SUBMISSION SUBMISSION PREPARATION CHECKLIST

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  • The submitted manuscript should not been previously published or concurrently submitted to another journal.
  • The submission manuscripts file should be in Microsoft Word (MS Word) only.
  • Please insert all the authors' names into the system through the following functions, Submission then Enter Metadata and add authors' names to the List of Contributors.
  • The manuscript should be formatted according to the MySE template as in the Author's Guidelines.
  • For blind peer reviewing process, the submitted manuscript should not have author’s names.
  • The submitted manuscript should be attached with the plagiarism report through Turnitin software.
  • YOUR MANUSCRIPT WILL NOT BE PROCESSED IF IT DOESN'T FOLLOW THIS SUBMISSION CHECKLIST.


AUTHOR GUIDELINE
MySE welcomes research article throughout the year. Manuscript can be submitted by registering with Open journal system of as the given link:

PUBLICATION FEES

Publication fees in MySE include submission, reviewing, editing, publishing, and uploading the accepted article in MySE website. For all these services, MySE charges MYR200 @ USD100 per article. The minimum word length of the article should be 3000 and not exceed 5000 words. The payment can be make by click this link https://uitmpay.uitm.edu.my/otherservices/products/AAA1/02/1379


COPYRIGHT TRANSFER AGREEMENT
Upon acceptance of an article, the authors have to fill in the authorization form of the article to the publisher on behalf of any and all co-authors. The form can be downloaded at Download Copyright form

The submiss Malaysian Journal of Sustainable Environment uses two methods for manuscript submission. You can choose one of the delivery method. The choice of method is as follows:

.ETHICS AND MALPRACTICE

Malaysian Journal of Sustainable Environment (MySE) is committed to ensuring the highest standards of publication ethics, whereas all possible measure strictly prohibits the publication malpractice. Our responsibility is to publish original work of value to the intellectual community in the best possible form and the highest possible standards. We expect similar standards from our reviewers and authors. Honesty, originality and fair dealing on the part of authors, and fairness, objectivity and confidentiality on the part of editors and reviewers are among the critical values that enable us to achieve our goal. MySE endorses and behaves by the codes of conduct and international standards established by the Committee on Publication Ethics. MySE is committed to following best practices on ethical matters, errors, and retractions, and to provide a legal review if necessary.

EDITOR’S RESPONSIBILITIES
The Editors are responsible for deciding which of the articles submitted to the journal should be published;

  • The Editors may discuss with other editors or reviewers in making the decision;
  • The Editors evaluate manuscripts for their intellectual content without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy of the authors;
  • The Editors must not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, other editorial advisers, and the publisher, as appropriate;
  • The Editors should ensure a fair and proper peer review process;
  • Unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript must not be used by anyone who has a view of the script in his or her research without the express written consent of the author;
  • The Editors should guard the integrity of the published record by issuing corrections and retractions when needed and pursuing suspected or alleged research and publication misconduct.

 

EDITORIAL BOARD RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The Editorial Board must keep information about submitted manuscripts confidential.
  • The Editorial Board must disclose any conflicts of interest.
  • The Editorial Board must evaluate manuscripts only for its intellectual content.
  • The Editorial Board is responsible for making publication decisions for submitted manuscripts.

 

 SCIENTIFIC REVIEWER’S RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Information regarding manuscripts submitted by authors should be kept confidential and be treated as privileged information;
  • Reviews should be conducted objectively. There shall be no personal criticism of the author. Reviewers should express their views clearly with supporting arguments;
  • Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors. The appropriate citation should accompany any statement that had been previously reported elsewhere;
  • Reviewers should request to the Editors attention any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under consideration and any other published paper of which they have personal knowledge;
  • In case, any reviewer feels that him/her can't complete review of manuscript within stipulated time then the same must be communicated to the editors so that the same could be sent to any other reviewer;
  • Reviewers should not review papers in which they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships or connections with any of the authors, companies, or institutions connected to the papers.

 

PUBLICATION ETHICS
Submission of an article implies that:

  • The work described has not been published previously except in the form of an abstract or as part of a published lecture or academic thesis.
  • That it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere.
  • That its submission and publication in the journal is known and approved by all Authors.
  • The work is the Author’s own and there are no falsification or fabrication of data, plagiarism including duplicate publication of the authors’ own work without
  • proper citation and misappropriation of the work are all unacceptable practices.

 

AUTHOR’S RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The Authors should submit papers only on work that has been conducted ethically and responsibly and that complies with all relevant legislation;
  • The authors present their  results,  honestly, and   without   fabrication, falsification or inappropriate data manipulation;
  • The Authors should endeavour to describe their methods clearly and unambiguously so that others can confirm their findings;
  • The Authors should adhere to publication requirements that submitted work is original, is not plagiarized, and has not been published elsewhere;
  • The Authors must certify that the manuscript is not currently being considered for publication elsewhere;
  • The Authors should ensure that they have written entirely original works, and if the authors have used the work and words of others this must be appropriately cited;
  • The Authors should take collective responsibility for submitted and published work;
  • A paper should contain sufficient detail and references to permit others to replicate the work. Duplicitous or expressively inaccurate statements constitute unethical behaviour and are unacceptable;
  • Proper acknowledgement of the work of others must always be given. Authors should cite publications that have been influential in determining the nature of the reported work;
  • The Authors should ensure that the authorship accurately reflects individuals’ contributions to the work and its reporting; and where others have participated in certain substantive aspects of the research project, they should be acknowledged;
  • The Authors should disclose relevant funding sources and any existing or potential conflicts of interest. All sources of financial support for the project should be disclosed;
  • When an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in his/her published work, it is the author’s obligation to promptly notify the journal editors and the editor to retract or correct the paper.

JOURNAL’S OPTIONS FOR POST-PUBLICATION DISCUSSIONS AND CORRECTIONS

  • Every article published by MySE either in the print issue or online, constitutes the Version of Record (VoR): the final, definitive, and citable version in the scholarly record.
  • The VoR includes:
    - The paper, revised and accepted following peer review, in its final form, including the abstract, text, references, bibliography, and all accompanying tables, illustrations, data.
    - Any supplemental material.
  • Recognizing a published article as a finalized Version of Record establishes the expectation that it can be relied upon as accurate, complete, and citable. Wherever possible it is our policy to maintain the integrity of the Version of Record in accordance with STM Association guidelines.
  • Articles that have been published should remain extant, exact, and unaltered to the maximum extent possible. Because articles can be read and cited as soon as they are published, any changes thereafter could potentially impact those who read and cited the earlier version.

 

 

 


Overview
All MySE articles from our website (https://myse.my) are published with open access under the Creative Commons CC-BY-NC-SA license (the current version is CC-BY-NC-SA, version 4.0). This means that the author(s) retains copyright, but the content is free to download, distribute, and adapt for commercial or non-commercial purposes. However, appropriate attribution must be made to the original article.

Upon submission, the author(s) automatically grants MySE a license to publish, including to display, store, copy, and reuse the content. The license will cease if the author chooses to withdraw the paper by writing to the chief editor within a month of submission. The paper cannot be withdrawn after it is published. The CC-BY-NC-SA Creative Commons attribution license enables anyone to use the publication freely, given appropriate attribution to the author(s) and citing MySE as the original publisher. The CC-BY-NC-SA Creative Commons attribution license does not apply to third-party materials that display a copyright notice to prohibit copying. Unless the third-party content is also subject to a CC-BY-NC-ND Creative Commons attribution license, or an equally permissive license, the author(s) must comply with any third-party copyright notices

Author Rights
The below table explains the rights that authors have when they publish with Penerbit UiTM Publisher. These apply to the corresponding author and all co-authors.

Author rights in Penerbit UiTM journals

- Retain patent and trademark rights.
- Retain the right to use their research data freely without any restriction. - Receive proper attribution and credit for their published work.
- Re-use their material in new works without permission or payment (with full acknowledgment of the original article):

  1. Extend an article to book length.
  2. Include an article in a subsequent compilation of their work.
  3. Re-use portions, excerpts, and their figures or tables in other works.
- Use and share their works for scholarly purposes (with full acknowledgment of the original article):
  1. In their classroom teaching. Electronic and physical distribution of copies is permitted.
  2. If an author is speaking at a conference, they can present the article and distribute copies to the attendees.
  3. Distribute the article, including by email, to their students and to research colleagues who they know for their personal use.
  4. Share and publicize the article via Share Links, which offers 50 days of free access for anyone, without signup or registration.
  5. Include in a thesis or dissertation (provided this is not published commercially).
  6. Share copies of their article privately as part of an invitation-only work group on commercial sites with which the publisher has a hosting agreement.
- Publicly share the preprint on any website or repository at any time.
- Publicly share the accepted manuscript on non-commercial sites.
- Publicly share the final published article.
- Retain copyright.

Institution Rights

Should the author choose to publish with Penerbit UiTM, their institution has the right to use articles for classroom teaching and internal training. Articles can be used for these purposes throughout the author’s institution, not just by the author:

Institution rights in Penerbit UiTM journals (providing full acknowledgment of the original article is given);

- Copies can be distributed electronically as well as in physical form for classroom teaching and internal training purposes.
- Material can be included in coursework and courseware programs for use within the institution.
- Articles can be included in applications for grant funding.
- Theses and dissertations which contain embedded final published articles as part of the formal submission can be posted publicly by the awarding institution with DOI links back to the formal publication.

Open Access Licenses

Our goal is to support the dissemination of knowledge through the use of open-access licenses.

Once a Creative Commons user license is chosen, it cannot be revoked. Authors should verify if their funding body mandates a particular license. For further information, please refer to the Creative Commons website. The user license employed by the Penerbit UiTM summary is shown in the next table.

Digital Archive

Penerbit UiTM is committed to the permanent availability and preservation of scholarly research and to ensuring accessibility by converting and upgrading digital file formats to comply with new technology standards. We work in partnership with organizations as well as maintaining our digital archive.

Perpustakaan Negara Malaysia (PNM)

Based on the Library Materials Delivery Act of 1986 by the National Library of Malaysia, Penerbit UiTM is obligated to the act and required to provide one copy of their publication in digital form for archiving purposes

In-House Data Archive

Penerbit UiTM has created an in-house data archive for secure storage and management of digital data collections for future use. The data includes various types of documents, such as journals, proceedings, and others. UiTM manages this data using approved software to ensure the security and accessibility of data copies. The purpose of the in-house data archive is to provide a centralized, secure, and easily accessible repository of important data, while also reducing the risks of data loss, corruption, or theft.

Publisher Office

Articles published under an Publisher Office user license are protected by copyright. Users may access, download, copy, translate, text and data mine the articles for non-commercial purposes provided that users:

  1. Cite the article using an appropriate bibliographic citation (i.e. author(s), journal, article title, volume, issue, page numbers, DOI and the link to the definitive published version)
  2. Maintain the integrity of the article
  3. Retain copyright notices and links to these terms and conditions so it is clear to other users what can and cannot be done with the article
  4. Ensure that, for any content in the article that is identified as belonging to a third party, any re-use complies with the copyright policies of that third party
